Young Girls to stride as vanguard of Women’s Development Federation– The founder of WDF
Q: What is the specific purpose behind the establishment of societies for young girls in parallel to the celebrations of the silver jubilee. ? |
A: Establishment of Women`s societies and Jansha-kthi societies in 1989 was pursued for the benefit of less advantaged women. By now 1,273 Women’s societies with 158 Janashakthi Bank societies attended by 70,000 low income families are functioning. In spite of above measures, we heard that most of the matured daughters of member families are with distressful mentalities. Most of them don’t have positive hopes for the future. Hence this issue was directed to us seeking some assistance. That is the reason to pursue the formation of Young girls’ ‘Devi societies’ in order to link their energy, juvenility and strength for the processes of development.
|
Q: How these young Devy societies be established ? |
A : It has aimed to establish minimum one Devy society under the total 158 Bank societies. Women within the age range of 16-30 are eligible to become members and one share worth Rs. 500/= to be purchased by each including the payment of Rs. 10/= being membership fees. Election of 3 leading office bearers while approving the new constitution too, to be attended.
|
Q : What are the deliberated action to be launched to secure the complaisance of female youth while addressing their expectations ? |
A : The intended actions reflect in the 10 objectives appearing in the constitution approved by female youth. The most prominent objective is to create Sri Lankan pride among this category of members since we cannot allow younger generation to follow certain socio-political moves which might be attempting to disrupt the peace and harmony in the country. This is vital since we have undergone tremendous of hardships, as well as, varied life risks in the past. Second aim is to inculcate feelings on self pride on labor. This is essential by reasons that a large volume of labour in the country is under-utilized. As an example, the Dengue menace can be controlled to a satisfactory degree if there is a national initiative to utilize the idling labour. Thus, WDF will launch several programmes in the near future to attract female youth for different initiatives to create self pride on labour.
